Revenge Recommends: "The Patriot's Call" by Ian Stuart

Genuine emotional projection and connection with the audience are two important aspects of music, but this begs the question of what can inspire such projection and initiate such communion. Strong emotions and fervent beliefs obviously help.

Early Bluesmen and Country and Western singers could sing authentically about the grim determinism that circumscribed their lives, teenage punks could holler with genuine angst from the pits of their dysfunctional lives, while the true geniuses could tap into the awe inherent in the Cosmos, but what is left for the rest of the musical fraternity in this age of affluence, triviality, and distraction?

Songs about cars and girls? Perhaps, fleetingly, these can inspire genuine moods and emotions that calibrate to the essential requirements of music, but more often than not, the modern musician is simply a lie within a lie attempting to invert himself into a simulation of sincerity.

What is left? Possibly potent and demonized political convictions of the kind that can only be held by, say, a White nationalist in the anti-nationalist West.

This 1991 song, from a solo album by Ian Stuart of the "White Power" band Skrewdriver, evinces a mood of rooted – but not hyperbolic – emotional intensity. This perhaps explains the constant emotional charge that existed between Stuart and his small but devoted following, despite the constant attempts at vilification and his own technical limitations as a singer and musician.

The Lyrics:

As enemies plan to take over our nations
Their only ambitions to see Europe fall
They'll be no surrender to the Reds or the moneylenders
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
They can stop all their bluffing, they're entitled to nothing
And they don't belong here with their alien ideas
For we'll not be beaten, the true European
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
We'll stand and we'll fight, 'til the last man and woman
And we won't give an inch of our national pride
And we'll fight and we'll beat them, 'til we finally defeat them
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
instrumental break
We'll fight in the cities, we'll fight in the forests
We'll fight in the mountains, for Europe we die
For we'll not be mastered by no Marxist bastard
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patriots' call
Come on all you lads hear the patrïots' call
